Seven schools are constantly `at war` with each other, and the students within - both male and female - have become skilled fighters and constantly battle with rival schools. Their lives and fates are guided by strange jewels that contain the spirits and destinies of warriors from the Sangokushi period. One girl, Sonsaku Hakufu, has recently moved to Japan and is apparently destined to unite the schools as her counterpart united seven countries long ago. But, like all heroes, there is a darker side to her fate, and as always there is a constant struggle by those around her to break the chains of their own destinies and make their own lives.

In the 21st century mankind was on the brink of destruction. Through genetic engineering however they eradicated such feelings as love and the desire for power. Since women are naturally less agressive than men, women to man ratio was set to 9:1. Now people are engineered to have skills that others view as being necessary. There is a giant ring that now orbits the earth, that sits there and relays information back to an alien race that sent it. Now a team of five women will try to eradicate the alien threat.

Adaption of the amateur created murder mystery computer game Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni developed by the studio 7th Expansion. Studio Deen will produce the animation.

The main character of the story is Maebara Keiichi, a young teenager, who has recently moved from the city to the rural village of Hinamizawa with his family. He`s adjusting pretty well to his new life, making several friends at his new and small school, playing games every day and passing his days in a bliss, when suddenly a murder case happens...

From that point on a mystery, which traces back to happenings five years ago, begins to unravel itself before him. But which is that he is bound to find out and more importantly, will he be able to digest the truth behind all of this.

A girl dreams of falling from the sky and a black-winged bird trying to prevent this. She awakens inside an enormous translucent cocoon. Welcome to the Social Welfare Department, also known as Section 2. On the surface, the workers of Section 2 travel from hospital to hospital looking for little girls that have been in serious accidents and are in danger of dying. The MUST not have any surviving family. They take the girls to their special hospital and cure them. Their TRUE purpose is much more sinister. Section 2 is the home of a bunch of Ex Intelligence and Military Personnel and the Gunslinger Girls. Little Girls who have been Altered by Technology to have faster reflexes, perfect hearing and eyesight, and nearly indestructible bodies. They are the assasins of the government, working in the shadows to ensure that the politicians are happy, and therefore no one knows of their existence. Each girl is paired with a handler to which they have sworn absolute loyalty, and are officially known as Fratellos. But technology has a price, and it's something that each little girl has to pay. And sometimes the price can be high.

The anime is mostly focused on Henrietta and her handler Jose but there are actually 6 Gunslinger Girls: Henrietta, Rico, Triela, Angelica, Claes, and Elsa.

This is probably the only anime exclusively set in Italy.
